Traditional engineering approaches have proved inadequate to foster sustainable infrastructure, renewable energy, resilient supply networks, advanced materials, and intelligent digital systems. Climate change, energy transition, resource scarcity, urbanization, and digital revolution require predictive, flexible, and efficient solutions. Modeling, simulation, and AI/ML technologies have emerged as competent tools for tackling these global challenges while at the same time offering transformative opportunities. These tools enable quick prototyping, real-time monitoring, multi-scale modelling, predictive analytics, and automated optimisation. Processing of massive data, simulating complicated systems, and learning from dynamic situations enable engineering innovation and resilience across domains. This special issue captures the latest advancements and shows how intelligent modeling and simulation can directly tackle social issues like decarbonization and digitalization.
