Abstract

Simulation tools are used both for research and teaching to allow a good comprehension of the systems under study before practical implementations. This paper illustrates the way MATLAB is used to model non-linearites in synchronous machine. The machine is modeled in rotor reference frame with currents as state variables. The solution provide an easy way of determining the dynamic behaviour of the machine at run-up conditions. The MATLAB script is presented in Appendix 1 to encourage the reader use the script to verify the results presented. It is also expected that lecturers in Electrical machines who are involved in engineering undergraduate education will find the script very useful in terms of demonstrating the effect of non-linearities in Asynchronous machine dynamics.
